Mercantile increases NP ccTLDs

Mercantile Communications(MOS), one of the leading Internet Service Providers in Nepal and the only registrar for .NP domain has increased it ccTLDs for various domain services.

Previously, MOS was accepting .com.np, .org.np, .gov.np, .edu.np, .mil.np & .net.np for the registration but the rise in tlds in global market has pressurized them to increase it ccTLDs inside the country.

The newly added ccTLDs are .aero.np, .asia.np, .biz.np, .coop.np, .info.np, .jobs.np, .mobi.np, .museum.np, .name.np, .pro.np & .travel.np.

ccTLDs domain name is Country Code Top Level Domain. .NP domain are free for Nepali Citizens and Nepal based organisation (government or non-government) only.

.com.np	commercial	This is an open ccTLD; any person or entity is permitted to register. Though originally intended for for-profit business entities, for a number of reasons it became the “main” ccTLD for domain names and is currently used by all types of entities including nonprofits, schools and private individuals. Domain name registrations may be challenged if the holder cannot prove an outside relation justifying reservation of the name, to prevent “squatting”.
.coop.np	cooperatives	The .coop.np ccTLD is limited to cooperatives.
.edu.np	educational	The .edu.np ccTLD is limited to specific educational institutions such as, but not limited to, primary schools, middle schools, secondary schools, colleges, and universities.

Prevent WordPress From Creating Thumbnail

In WordPress you can upload, store, and display a variety of file types (media). In order to upload media, you may need to ensure that the correct file permissions are set for the wp-content directory in your WordPress installation(depends on server configuration).

When you try to upload an image, it will generate three thumbnails (large, medium and small) from your original image. If you have no uses of these thumbnails, they will become a liability to your site, take up valuable database and storage space. If you have a thousand posts in your blog and each post contains at least two images, then you will end up with at least 6000 useless thumbnail images.

I had a same kind of problem in the past. But after doing some google work, I found this a really easy workout to stop thumbnail generation. You can easily turn the automatic thumbnail feature off and the step is very easy. No hacking/modification of code or plugins required.

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings -> Media. Under the Images Sizes section, change all the value to zero.

Once you put the zero value, save the changes. Go to Posts – > Add New , and try to upload the image file. You will see that the “Thumbnail”, “Medium” and “Large” options are disabled under the Size section.
